Recipe: Crispy Falafel Burger with Creamy Tahini Sauce

This delicious vegan friendly burger is sure to be a hit at any dinner table! The crispy falafel patties are made from a combination of chickpeas, herbs, and spices, and are pan fried for a golden, crunchy exterior. Ingredients:

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3-4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 4 slices onion
  • Creamy tahini sauce:
    • ¼ cup tahini
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, baking soda, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture is a coarse paste, but not too smooth. Add the flour and pulse until combined.
  2. Form the mix into 4 equal patties. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the falafel patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. While the falafel is cooking, make the creamy tahini sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the tahini, lemon juice, garlic, water, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  4. To assemble the burgers, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom of each bun. Add a falafel patty, followed by a tomato slice and onion slice. Top with the creamy tahini sauce and the top of the bun.
  5. Serve hot.
