Classic Meat Lasagna

Classic Meat Lasagna is a timeless and hearty Italian dish that features layers of lasagna noodles, rich and meaty Bolognese sauce, and a delicious combination of cheeses.

Ingredients:

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce. Place 3 lasagna noodles on top, followed by another layer of meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of meat sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
  6. Dollop spoonfuls of ricotta cheese on top of the lasagna.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
