Perfect for busy weeknights, this slow cooker version of spaghetti bolognese is made with ground beef, canned tomatoes, and a blend of aromatic herbs and spices, and cooked low and slow for a rich and flavorful sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 lb. spaghetti
  • grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Transfer the beef mixture to a slow cooker and add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper, and red wine (if using).
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours, or on high heat for 3-4 hours.
  5. About 20 minutes before serving, cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  6. Serve the spaghetti topped with the bolognese sauce and grated Parmesan cheese.
