Perfect for busy weeknights, this slow cooker version of spaghetti bolognese is made with ground beef, canned tomatoes, and a blend of aromatic herbs and spices, and cooked low and slow for a rich and flavorful sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce
- 1 tsp. dried basil
- 1 tsp. dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 lb. spaghetti
- grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Directions:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
- Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the beef mixture to a slow cooker and add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper, and red wine (if using).
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours, or on high heat for 3-4 hours.
- About 20 minutes before serving, cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Serve the spaghetti topped with the bolognese sauce and grated Parmesan cheese.
