Spicy Spaghetti Bolognese

For those who like a little heat, this spicy version of spaghetti bolognese is made with hot Italian sausage, chili flakes, and a touch of cayenne pepper.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb. spaghetti
  • Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions:

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, dried basil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and water to the skillet with the beef and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve the spaghetti topped with the spicy bolognese sauce and grated Parmesan cheese.
