Venison-Stuffed Cabbage Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 lb. venison, ground
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions:

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cabbage and cook for 5 minutes. Remove the cabbage from the pot and let cool. Carefully separate the leaves and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the venison, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Lay out each cabbage leaf on a work surface. Place about 2 tablespoons of the venison mixture in the center of each leaf and roll up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go. Place the rolls in a large pot.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix together the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and olive oil. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls and bring to a simmer.
  5. Cover and simmer for 35-40 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender. Serve warm.
  6. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and heat until shimmering.
  7. Add the cabbage rolls to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Serve warm.
