This delicious and easy recipe for venison-stuffed cabbage rolls is the perfect comfort food for any occasion. Perfectly seasoned venison is stuffed into cabbage leaves and simmered in a savory tomato sauce. It’s a hearty, flavorful dish that you can enjoy for dinner or to bring to a potluck.
Ingredients:
- 1 head cabbage
- 1 lb. venison, ground
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Directions:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cabbage and cook for 5 minutes. Remove the cabbage from the pot and let cool. Carefully separate the leaves and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the venison, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Lay out each cabbage leaf on a work surface. Place about 2 tablespoons of the venison mixture in the center of each leaf and roll up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go. Place the rolls in a large pot.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and olive oil. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls and bring to a simmer.
- Cover and simmer for 35-40 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender. Serve warm.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and heat until shimmering.
- Add the cabbage rolls to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Serve warm.
