The mix of savory and sweet flavors make this dish both comforting and satisfying.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 pound whole wheat spaghetti

Directions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey and cook, stirring occasionally, until the turkey is no longer pink, about 8 minutes.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook, stirring, until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in the tomatoes and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens, about 25 minutes.
  5. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and remove the skillet from the heat.
  6. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
  7. Drain the spaghetti and return it to the pot. Add the turkey Bolognese sauce and toss to combine. Serve hot with additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.
